The option to Present at the Sessions is provided when registering and should your Presentation be accepted into the programme, a refund of $250AUD on your registration is provided following the Conferences. You may offer to do more than one Presentation but the refund will remain limited to $250AUD in total. Participation is much appreciated as our previous programmes have been both enlightening and “world class”, often covering the full medical spectrum. The Programme is not available until all places are filled. Note: There is a $500AUD prize offered by Wealth Tree Solutions* representative Jeff Bowman who has generously offered to fund this prize and provide information by way of a presentation. DEEP POWDER TOURS 1300 305 451
DEEP POWDER Snow Holidays have been of great assistance in putting in place all our conferences in Japan so far and is the principal agent for the Niseko SONS conference. They play a pivotal role in organising the upcoming conferences in Japan and come highly recommended. DEEP POWDER Snow Holidays are able to manage ALL your travel needs including airfares, accommodation and transfers to and from Niseko ski resort. DPT has an office in Niseko in the winter so it is best to have an Australian Travel Agent on your side if anything goes wrong while you are in Japan and who can offer either the same or better accommodation pricing.
In support of our event, Alpen Hotel provides very attractive accommodation packages if booked via DEEP POWDER Snow Holidays. All registrants who book through DEEP POWER Tours are eligible for a $100 Registration discount at checkout when registering for the conference using your DPT booking number.
***PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR DPT BOOKING NUMBER AT HAND
WHEN BOOKING FOR THE CONFERENCE***
The conference is held at Alpen Hotel which provides an exceptional ski in ski out location at the very top of the Niseko village. Discounts at the Alpen apply when booking through Deep Powder Tours. Further discounts will apply when booking for minimum of 7 days.
You will need to advise them that you are going to Kiroro so they can arrange transfers.
Please be aware that there is an option of renting in Niseko with Rhythm, relocating the equipment to Kiroro & then returning the hire gear by courier.

SONS … 2019 NISEKO AND KIRORO MEETINGS
This year the Niseko Meeting was held on Tuesday 8th January to Sat 12th Inclusive. Finishing on the Saturday was good for those who wanted to go on to the Kiroro add on meeting but a number of delegates left early and missed a really good final session and closing banquet. It seems that most Australians coming to our conference prefer Monday to Friday so they can use the weekend for further travel or returning home to work. Professor P J Wormald from Adelaide gave a special presentation on his research into major vascular injury using live sheep models. It was a special niche area of skull base surgery where his research has reduced fatality rates in humans from around 75% to almost zero in small numbers of patients worldwide. As long as delegates are happy to listen to my talk on Japanese history and culture, I will continue to deliver it. This year was on Bushido and showed some samurai sword fights that would have created significant vascular injury. Some of our regulars like Ron Trent , David Pohl, Tom Boogert, Les White , Cameron Altmann also presented wonderful talks. Special mention also to our youngest ever presenter Charlotte Trent who talked about University Entrance requirements.
Jeff Bowman from Wealth Tree Solutions once again provided a Financial guide. This time the subject was the essential but often overlooked one of Estate Planning. Jeff also presented the cash prize for the best presentation of the Niseko conference. This year it went to Marcus Chin from Perth with his presentation on Managing early gastric cancer endoscopically. It was fun speaking with Marcus in Japanese. He has spent some years studying in Japan with the endoscopic experts.
The Kiroro add on meeting was held at the Kiroro Tribute Hotel Sun 13th to Tues 15th January. The hotel is beautiful with large rooms and a very cosy meeting room. It is a bit more expensive than the Alpen in Niseko and we will need to consider raising the delegate registration fee a little to reflect this. The conference was very well attended by approximately 26 delegates. The prize for the best presentation went to Thomas Solano for his talk on Changing Microbiomes in the Gut. Saretta Lee gave a presentation on Mental Health of and for Doctors and her talk was very warmly received with a lot of audience involvement .
Next year 2020 sees a new Gondola right to the hotel , being opened and should make a huge difference to the skiing at Kiroro. After attending 7 Hokkaido meetings I would have to say that this year the snow was fantastic for the first 2 or 3 days than averaged out as there was little fresh snow for the next week. Still the Hokkaido average snow makes Australia’s best days look pretty ordinary.
Both these conferences are very family friendly and everyone loves the banquets. Please join us again in 2020. Niseko will be Monday 6th to Friday 10th January. The first banquet will be a true icebreaker as it will be held on the first night with the second banquet on the second last night. Kiroro will be Sunday 12 to Tuesday 14th.
